UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura told journalists after the meeting of the International Syria Support Group in New York that it had been “long, painful and disappointing.”
The UN envoy said that both Russia and the United States share the common stance of continuing their efforts to settle the ongoing conflict in Syria and broker a peace deal with the coming days being crucial of restoring the ceasefire, otherwise the war in the country might resume.
“The good news is that Russia and the U.S. agreed to work intensely on a possible restoration of it,” the UN envoy told journalists after the talks. “It was a long, painful, difficult and disappointing meeting.”
Thursday’s meeting of the International Syria Support Group in New York lasted for some two hours. The previous meeting on September 20 took a total of 50 minutes.
